The automobile steering knuckle is an important security part of the automobile and needs to withstand huge friction. In order to make it work better, we usually use medium frequency induction quenching equipment to quench the workpiece to increase its service life. Today, we will mainly introduce the medium frequency quenching process of the steering knuckle ball head support and kingpin.

1. Ball head support. The ball head support is made of 45 steel. The surface hardness after quenching is required to reach 48~58HRC, and the depth of the hardened layer is 3~6mm. In order to meet the requirements of the depth of the hardened layer, a special inductor is used, usually using the simultaneous heating and quenching technology of the entire quenching surface. We usually use intermediate frequency quenching equipment to quench it. The parameters are: using an intermediate frequency current of 8kHz, the output power is 140kW, The rotation speed of the parts is 150r/min, and the heating time is 5 seconds. After heating, all parts are poured into water for cooling at the same time. We usually use partial profiling inductor rotation heating and quenching technology to handle the ball head support of the steering knuckle, and the effect is good. It overcomes the shortcomings of inconvenient operation of the sensor and easy burns on the surface of the parts in contact when the entire quenching surface is heated and quenched at the same time. The characteristic is that the two axis wires are exactly the same as the shape of the part. The principle of proximity effect is used to realize the induction heating of the part. It has the advantages of simple structure, convenient adjustment, stable quenching quality and reasonable distribution of the hardened layer.

2. Kingpin. The intermediate frequency quenching of the kingpin is the final heat treatment. During the intermediate frequency quenching of the kingpin, continuous heating and quenching treatment should be used. The single-sided gap between the sensor and the kingpin should be controlled between 2 and 3mm. The pressure of water spray cooling should comply with the design. requirements to obtain the required depth and hardness of the hardened layer. Kingpins are prone to quenching cracks during heat treatment, mainly due to uneven cooling. Therefore, improving the uniformity of cooling is an effective measure to reduce local deformation and cracking. We usually avoid the occurrence of quenching cracks by increasing the gap between the sensor and the kingpin, appropriately reducing the water injection pressure, and rotating the parts.
