Induction hardening uses electromagnetic induction to generate eddy currents in the workpiece to heat the workpiece. This is a relatively common heating method at present, mainly including medium frequency, high frequency, super audio frequency, etc. So, how is low hardenability steel induction hardened? What kind of induction heating equipment is it suitable for?

It is more difficult to heat and quench a gear with a module of 2.5 to 6m along the tooth groove with a single tooth. However, heating and quenching with a ferrule will either harden the entire tooth, or it can only quench the area above the tooth root. In order to overcome this difficulty in technology, low-hardenability steel has been developed. Currently, there are three commonly used steels, namely 55Ti, 60Ti, and 70Ti.

How to quench and heat low-hardenability steel gears?

(1) Frequency selection, quenching and heating of low-hardenability steel gears can be selected by referring to the table. The most suitable equipment is none other than ultra-audio induction heating equipment.

Selection of heating frequency for quenching steel gears with low hardenability

Module/mm  3-4      5-6      7-8      9-12

Suitable for steel types  55Ti     60Ti     60Ti     70Ti

Recommended frequency  30-40    8        4        2.5

When field frequency matching is difficult, some remedial measures can be taken. One is to use low specific power and intermittent heating so that the tooth root can obtain sufficient heating depth without overheating the top of the tooth. The other method is to quickly turn on the automatic attachment when the tooth root is heated to the point where it is close to the quenching temperature. Capacitor-enhanced tooth root heating. When the heating depth reaches the requirement, quench and cool immediately.

(2) Quenching temperature and heating rate. The upper limit point of low-hardenability steel is lower. The quenching temperature is usually controlled between 830 and 850°C. The heating rate should not be too large to avoid excessive temperature difference between the tooth top and the tooth root. Usually, a specific power of 0.3~0.5kW/cm2 is used.

(3) Quenching cooling. The critical cooling rate of low-hardenability steel is high, reaching 400~1000℃/s (45 steel is only 150~400℃/s), so the quenching cooling rate is required to be very high. In order to avoid cracking, a polymer aqueous solution can be used and an appropriate concentration ratio can be selected. The quenching coolant pressure is generally 7×105Pa, and the flow rate per unit area is not less than 0.12L/cm2.

Zhengzhou Gou's is a manufacturer that specializes in manufacturing and selling induction heating equipment. According to the heating frequency, the ultrasonic induction heating equipment is most suitable for quenching and heating low-hardenability steel gears. The company's ultra-audio induction heating equipment has complete functions and uses German IGBT modules, making the equipment more environmentally friendly and energy-saving.
